As we kick off our Annual Summer Fundraiser, we are thrilled to announce that, with the support of our donor community (you!), we have paid over 840 urgent bills—hitting a $500K milestone to support families facing urgent financial crises in Greater Boston.
Local Needs- Donations in Action
Housing- Avoiding Eviction
DJ, a recent widower and single father, could not work while trying to secure childcare for his three girls. The family was facing eviction. The One By One Project paid the rent to help DJ and his girls get back on their feet. We've assisted with 27 housing bills in 2024 and have paid over 215 housing bills since 2021.
Utilities- Avoiding Shutoffs
Sam’s family received a utility shutoff notice while they grappled with Sam’s recent cancer diagnosis. Reducing work hours to support Sam’s care left the family short on funds. The One By One Project paid Sam's utility bill within 24 hours of receiving the request. This year, we've averted 19 utility shutoffs and have paid over 185 utility bills since 2021.
Transportation Support
Maya, a mom of three, was struggling to make ends meet when her 2011 car broke down. By covering the costs of repairing the car, Maya could continue to take her children to early childhood education and attend classes to advance her job prospects. We've paid 36 transportation requests in 2024 and 119 total transportation bills since 2021.
